Joe Brennan
Joe focuses on patent procurement and building patent portfolios that have business value for clients. He began his career at an Am Law 50 firm, focusing on patent procurement for companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 100 firms. While in private practice Joe filed and prosecuted patent applications in technologies including personal computer software, data storage, semiconductors, waterjet cutting, coin-counting, and renewable energy.
Joe also spent over 10 years at Google LLC, where he helped build strategic patent portfolios for the Android and Google Nest product areas. As Android patent counsel, Joe had responsibility for the Android technology stack as well as the supporting cloud services. Joe has extensive experience with smart home devices, such as doorbells, cameras, displays, and speakers. He also has extensive experience with the networking technologies underpinning such devices, including Mesh Wi-Fi, Thread, and Bluetooth Low Energy.
Joe also worked as a software engineer for several years prior to becoming a patent attorney.
